Language
You may have noticed your child is finding it hard to communicate with you; they may have poor attention, struggle to follow instructions, have very few, or no words, or find it difficult to put words together to make sentences. If your child is older you may have noticed they find it hard to learn and remember new words, they may have difficulties following longer more complex instructions, poor memory skills or struggle with learning and using grammar. There are lots of very practical and effective strategies to support your child's language development at all ages and stages.
Top Tips
Model Language
Try to model simple language for your child. Think about what is the most useful language in that situation and model this using short phrases. Try to give lots of repetition and leave lots of pauses to encourage your child to join in.

Stories and Books
Share books and stories with your child. Read books which have interactive elements such as lift the flap, those which are repetitive and those which are familiar to your child. Take time to talk about what is happening in the pictures and relating it to something that your child is familiar with. You could also find some toys which help the child retell the story.
